All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello,
I am completely new to MURS radios. They are a tool for me not a hobby, so please excuse my ignorance.

i hunt on large tracks of actively managed forest. The logging trucks have the right of way. They announce what road they are on, direction of travel and mile marker. it is up to you to pull off the road or risk having a head on collision with a fully loaded logging truck.

Most of the properties use MURS radios which is why I have the Radioddity MU-5 and icon radio. I found out, almost the hard way, that there is forest management company that is still using CB’s.

The MU-5 can be programmed but when I try to enter a CB channel frequency the radio system will not accept it. I am programming using the radios panel buttons, not a cable and software.

Can the MU-5 be programmed for citizen band frequency? Would it just be easier to buy a hand held CB radio?

Thank You.

Most likely no. Don't think it will CB frequencies

CB is 26-27 MHz and MURS 151/154 MHz

Just get a CB.

Since I am not completely familiar with the MU-5, I cannot say with absolute certainty but with perhaps 99% certainty... no, it will not.

MURS is in the 150 mHz range and CB is in the 27 mHz range. The MU-5 is marketed to receive and transmit on the MURS frequencies while being able to scan a VHF and UHF frequency range. However, based upon the boatload of other CCRs, that range will not be as low as 27 mHz.

If you want to carry a radio in addition to the MU-5, I can highly recommend the President Randy II FCC for transmitting and receiving CB from a handheld. I have found none better in modern production. If you only want to receive CB, you could carry a relatively inexpensive Uniden scanner such as the BCAT125, SR30C (?), or the BC75XLT. Those scanners are capable of scanning MURS and CB. In addition, they will scan faster than the MU-5 or President Randy II FCC are capable.

the MU5 receives 136 to 174 and 400 to 520. so no it can not receive the CB band.
so the two radio solution looks to be the best.
with a scanner, someone could be talking on the cb side and someone on the MURS side at the same time.
you want both.
