• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

There’s some discussion in the video above re Signal Meter accuracy/calibration and that digital radios appear to read high.

The latter is their sensitivity to what’s in the air. All the modern day RF noise we’ve surrounded ourselves with.

A BPF has helped in this regard. Cleans things up. Choose per band on which one primarily operates.

Qualitative more than Quantitative change.

FWIW: Unless he has changed his mind since I bought my Q5, Scott's stopped selling them. I ordered from Wolcott.

Sells QT60 & QT40

Walcott sold me a returned Q5. Be careful with them (allow no work inside any gear).

I’ve spent $2k there, easily, past five years. Great retail store and good online service.

SWR set is nothing out of the ordinary past menu function SWR protection (against damage from being too high; adjustable).

An antenna analyzer is the next step to better performance (more information).

Antenna tuning can be a PITA when complications arise. Best mount + best location lessens this considerably (IMO, the most important decisions about a particular radio rig).

Nano-VNA is an increasingly popular low-cost device to get things nailed in.

This will fulfill the desire to use a program by which to tune:

21st Cen tuning for 21st Cen radio.

On the QT60 programming software, there is a drop-down list I need identifying what it is for.

Its on the Channel Information window, the list next to the Band list, named "Work Group" -- what is that list for? Anyone? (see screenshot for it's location) -- see red arrow/square:

Okay, I was able to figure it out.

The Work Group list is to select the band you want to always load when you turn ON the radio.

I got other questions about this unit, will it be okay to post them here in this thread or should I start a new topic for each different issue I come across with this unit? Let me know...

Start a thread about your experience. All of it.

I got my QT60 from Scott's Radio. Since I don't know jack squat about the guts of a radio I paid him to open it up. Money well spent in my case. Love the radio too. Don't have an ideal setup by any means, but I still get reports of excellent audio on the other end. Got mine in four business days. Radio, tuning, tax, & shipping all in for $307.

He was a beta tester for the Anytone version. All the mods but one are via software with which he’s now highly experienced. IIRC, he adjusts modulation, does 11M conversion, and double-checks on scope the other functions. I think it worth the expense were I to buy another. Men of my online acquaintance with much more understanding than I praise his service.

I’d buy straight up and do conversion myself. Or from him to be sure radio isn’t defective plus the lagniappe of settings tweaks.

I purchased the QT60 almost 3 months ago. Out of the box I had 24.xxx-30.000 mHz @60+ watts.
I've talked to California, Michigan and Brazil while driving down the road with reception reports from 55 to 59. I was told voice was maybe a little tiny in tone. Otherwise love it.
I've not tried to talk on the CB channels ( match is too high ).
I'd like to find a way to address the match issue between 10 and 11 Meter so to be able to just jump between band. Currently Im using a TRAM antenea.

Radio has to be converted for 11M (search; several vids linked). See thread “Best Mobile 2023”.

Antenna must be correct length for 11M. (Or a different type of antenna).

Mobile or Base each has positives & negatives re practice, expense & difficulty versus the other.

I’d start your own thread and lay it all out where you are and what’s up (images always help, too).
