Im completely new to this forum, but not forums in general, therefore, I DID do a search but could not find an answer to my problem. I know how annoying it is when a newbie comes in and asks the same stupid question which has been answered over and over again.

My name is Chris, and I'm from California...so Hello to all, glad to be here.

My question - I have a new (few hours old) BCD396xt
I am scanning my local area of Sacramento and I can hear local LEOs...however, I can not hear the same stuff that is being broadcast on RR.com I scan, and manually flip through the channels, and cant seem to sync ANYTHING up. I understand RR is monitoring several channels? I cant manage to get any channel to match.. Can anyone help me?

And if this has already been discussed, maybe send me to that thread so that everyone else doesnt have to beat a dead horse for me?

Thanks guys!

From the info you have provided it sounds as if it is not trunking, just treating the freqs. as conventional.

You won't be able to sync what you are hearing on your scanner and what you are hearing on RR. There is a delay from when things are heard on the scanner to when you will hear them on RR.

I know about the delay...but Im getting a lot more activity online then I am on my HH....many more conversations

How do I know if its trunking? and if not, how do I enable that?

Thank you both for your replies so far

Antenna

You may be hearing more traffic on a FEED because they are using an OUTDOOR antenna up in the air as opposed to a rubber duck antenna on a HH. I don't know what feed you are listening to but that would be my guess. On my FEEDs I use outdoor antennas and even a YAGI to bring in traffic that I wouldn't get on a Handheld with just a rubber duck antenna.

Which system are you monitoring? CA is a big state.

Sacramento law enforcement, including the city, county and many jurisdictions within; are on the Sacramento Regional Radio Communications System (SRRCS). To make matters a little more confusing, there are "two sites" or two sets of frequencies that are used. You must program your scanner to receive from one or both of these sites. Once programmed correctly, you must "scan" these sites (not monitor individual frequencies) to get the traffic and "trunk track" the conversations.

When it comes to which set of frequencies (which site) to use, use the set in which you have the best reception of the control channel. The dispatch traffic, which is what is streamed to RR, is on both sites. If you want "specialty channels", they may exist on only one of the two sites. For example; fire tac channels B6 to B12 are generally only available on the city site.

If you are unable to receive either control channel very well, you may indeed need an outdoor antenna. From here in Fair Oaks I get one site with no antenna on my scanner (no kidding), but I must use an outdoor antenna to pick up signals from the city site. It all depends on where you are and what you want to monitor.
