This T-band story is old news and has essentially been voided already by the FCC due to the very strong negative reaction that the proposal encountered. The story has also been extensively discussed on this Board over the past couple of months by regular readers of the Board.

The OP was passing on an article dated today (5/16) regarding Boston area interoperability and the cost of changing to yet another system.
Unfortunately, if you are on a T-Band system and need to have any narrowband UHF frequencies (450-470) in a radio (mutual aid, interoperability, etc), you still need to replace it.

It has not been voided by the FCC. They do not have the authority to not require T-Band giveback in 9 to 11 years. Only Congress can change it now as it was mandated in HR3630.

What the FCC DID do was put a hold on narrowbanding in the T-Band. But the giveback in 9 to 11 years is still there.

It should also be noted that HR3630 requires the T-Band relocation to be paid for (e.g. not cost the licensee), something this article overlooks.
