A radio has to be CAP compliant, VHF, P25, and trunking ready. NOT capable, but READY TO GO. A number of sales were made in the past couple of years have resulted in people with radios that have a very healthy cost for the firmware to make them READY TO GO, when they were bought capable. IOW, the end user got screwed.
Also, although the MOSCAP grant program requires dual band radios, that is not a requirement for the radios to be used on the system. Single band radios work fine, if they are VHF, P25, and trunking READY.
The only dual band radios i am aware of that are on the system are,
Motorola APX (mobile and portable)
Tait (Mobile only)
Harris Unity (mobile and portable)
Pricing ranging from 3500 for the Tait to over 5500 for the Motorola, I am not sure of the Harris.
For single band radios,
Motorola XTS and XTL - but you have to check what firmware, options, etc.
Tait TM9100 and again check firmware, options, etc
Icom IC-F9511 and IC-F9011 - these both are READY to go out of the box
I am not sure what Kenwood offering is out there.
Harris I believe the XG75 and m7300
The Icoms start around $1250.00 and the rest go up from there - to 2500 and more depending on the manufacturer.
Your manufacturer/dealer should be able to tell you exactly what has been approved to be on the system, or the state interop office can.
