Radio Telecommunications will NEVER truely be obsolete... just take a new form as technologies progress... Sat Radios,.... IP able radios,... Software Defined Radios....... I highly doubt you will see aircraft and marine vessels going to a pure MDS system in the near future, same with 90 % of LMR....

Kinda hard to type into an Mobile Computer Terminal while in a foot chase or while battling a house fire there will always been a need for some type of radio communication whether it be analog or digital.....

Radio communications will never die out, they will just adapt, as mentioned before. In the future, you will have a chip inserted just under your scalp, that will be a micro-cell phone. As the aliens reveal more and more of their technology to us, this will be possible. Ever see the movies where the aliens communicate via telepathy? It wasn't really telepathy, it was a tiny chip that transmitted radio signals.
