You'll also find that a long wire attached to the antenna connection and no ground will still provide very good reception. Im currently using an 80+ foot long wire with no ground for my DX160, DX200 and my Yaesu Frg7 & Frg7000 and it works brilliantly.
Technically though, you should use a ground to complete the circuit, im just saying that you can get away without it.
