Heh. When Ham Radio Outlet has the gre 500 for $20 less, it's hard to get excited about a 106 for $379. Of course, if you don't live near an HRO and don't want to wait for shipping, $379 is better than the non-sale price of a 106.

RS sale

Not only that but the PRO-163, PRO-164, PRO-197 & PRO-106 are all OUT OF STOCK for online purchases. That means you have to search out a store that has stock. I didn't find any in my area.

One Truck driver I made friends with at work does runs almost every week right by the Delaware location. I should tell him to grab a few while he can.

If you subtract the scanners that are out of stock online, you don't have many left. Radio Shack doesn't seem to have many RADIOS anymore. And online sales are where it's at these days. Maybe it's time to change the name to Phone Shack.

Radio Shack is working on a business model that was perfect for the 1970s.

Non-stop excitement. It is far better than the radio shack sale guy said. Lots of EMS and other strip traffic.

the 163 & 164 are still WAY over priced even at $189 when you can get a BCT15X for a little more and get a Whole lot more scanner.

You are a bit late with this thread. The sale has been in progress for a few days.

http://forums.radioreference.com/radio-shack-scanners/260720-radioshack-yet-another-sale.html

There are only two good reasons RS would run another sale:

1) The company is having severe trouble (no surprise, given their low stock price)

2) GRE is out of business and RS does not want to confirm it until they get rid of all their scanner inventory.

Well, I thought I would like to inform others that didn't know, like myself.

These radios will work on all StarCom21 sites:
Uniden
BCD396T, BCD396XT, BCD996T, BCD996XT, HP-1.

GRE
PSR500, PSR600, PSR800.

Radio Shack
Pro-106, Pro197.

Other digital scanners may work on 800MHz sites only, such as the Uniden BC296D and BC796D as well as the Radio Shack Pro96 and Pro2096.
