RS in Canada is currently run by InterTAN, a seperate company from RS USA. Circuit City bought InterTAN and will supposedly ultimately change all Canadian RS's at present to CC's. However, the article implies that RS USA wants to use the name in Canada before it is relinquished by Circuit City in '09...

Hi Jay,

Ya this whole RadioShack thing is going to get messy. RadioShack (US) won a court battle last month that says InterTAN can no longer use the RadioShack name, thats why Curcuit City (new owners) is going to all the cost and trouble in changing the name to "the source" by this year.

RadioShack (US) wants to move into the Canadian market this year using the RadioShack name, opening up hopefully 90 stores by early '06.

I don't know how Curcuit City still has rights to the RadioShack name since it lost the rights to that name last week. I smell a massive court battle!! Again. <Sigh> :(

I want some REAL RadioShack stores in Canada, the ones that have.....you know, radios!!!

Regards,
Richster.

Further to this,

Curcuit City will be (if not already) filing an appeal in the Tarrant County District Court in Texas, to fight the judgement ruled against them.

What get's me miffed here is that Curcuit City is going ahead and changing all their stores to "the source" anyways no matter if the appeal goes in thier favor. It looks like Curcuit City just wants to keep RadioShack (US) out of Canda until 2009. I doubt if RadioShack (US) will move into Canda if it can't use it's name. I guess Curcuit City is afraid of a little heathy competition.

Well let's hope CC loses, and soon.

Regards,
Richster.

Actually, they can get around the "name" issue by inserting a space
between the corporate name .
So instead of RadioShack Canada (no space) , you could call the Canadian
subsiduary Radio Shack Canada.
It's a subtle difference that no one will really notice. :)

Over the past year or two Radio Shack US were starting too look like Radio Shack Canada stores (inertan Circuit City) hardly any scanners only handling the high volume consumer electronics, far and few between with the radios and or scanners. So don't expect any major changes with Radio Shack US taking back thier stores
In Spokane I was told the number one celling items was cell phones and Personal MP3 players.

Now if your looking for a meca of a electronics store I would love to see Frys open up in Canada, A store the size of football field with electonics.
The last time i dropped by Frys Las Vegas they had at least 10 different scanners, many shortwave radios, frequency counters, antennas.......

I dropped by the Radio Shack in Orlando last month and there's nothing different from Radio Shack up here in Canada except for scanners.

Lots of remote control cars and trucks, cell phone accessories and gadgets.

The Intertan offices in Barrie have already dropped the Radioshack sign but the attached retail store still says RadioShack.

It will be interesting to see what happens to the warehouse store.

The RadioShack in Toronto's Eaton Centre has allready put up the new The Source by CC sign up. All the stores here in Hamilton where I live have huge notice signs at the front saying they will be renamed to The Source by CC on or before July 1, 2005.
