So who all here has the RadioShack Pro-528? What kind of performance does yours have?

I have one, and I'm just curious as to how many other members here have one, and what your initial thoughts were when you first bought the scanner, compared to your thoughts now?

Initially, I didn't have much faith in the little scanner, but now, it's became one of my favorites. I'm listening to Lexington, KY TRS and the Lexington Conventional systems right now on mine. It really shines with the RadioShack 800 mhz duckie.

I brought it with me last weekend, and used the stock duckie, and it was a joke for 800 mhz trunked systems. It sounded well on UHF and VHF Hi, but on Lexington's EDACS system, it was next to nothing. Got the RS 800 on it this weekend, and the EDACS system is booming in..

So owners, what are your thoughts? Any prospective owners as well?

I own it and personally I really like it. However, I have nothing else t ocompare it to, other than an old Bearcat from Uniden from the 80's, and compared to it, the 528 has better quality sound and scans faster as well as can pick up the EDACS system for my county. The only thing I wish it would have is MilAir, that would make it the perfect scanner, but seeing as I picked it up for only a 100 bucks, it was well worth it.

Yeah, I don't understand why the Pro-433 can do MilAir, but the pro-528 cannot. They're both the same scanner, the 433 is just the base version.. I dunno..

No alpha tags makes it a real dog for me. Even for 100 bucks!

The Pro-528 and Rebanding

I am looking at purchasing the Pro-528 due to the "rebanding" issue. I have a Pro-96 digital, which is supposed to work under tne rebanding", but I also have a Pro-97 which looks like it will not work with the rebanding, which makes me mad because I haven't had it that long.

Seems like every time you purchase a new scanner, someone changes something, or the manufacturer, shcu as RadioShack, doesn't tell you if will or wont work on some things.

I got one ($99) for a cheap rebandable radio. It has also become a favorite. Very sensitive, good audio, (not powerful though) and solid perforamnce. The stock duck is useless, so I use it with a Diamond RH77, Smiley 270A whip, or shack 800 duck. For $99 and rebandable it's great. Low price and performance make the lack of features ok. When rebanding, or digital it here,(Broward countyy Fl.) I'll have to upgrade. For now it's good enough!

Yeah I'll agree the stock duck ain't much punkin'. How's it act with a 77' on it? I use a RS 800, and it done pretty good and jerking in some trunked systems a few days ago..

528 with diamond antenna

I like it as an all around duck. The Broward TRS is a strong local signal so it comes in dfq. I also scan local vhf, uf and air. In 800 the shack's duck is great,, good in uhf and poor in the air band. It's a great antenna, (the rh77) but its best feature is how broadbanded it is. Best all around. Austin
