I am new to using a scanner...actually I've never used one before. I was given a pro-90 and was wondering if it could be programed to receive the Ottawa Valley Canada feeds? From the information I am finding on-line, it seems this old scanner is not compatable with the new trunking systems. If not, can anyone recomend a economic portable scanner that would?
Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks, John (scanner newbe!!)

Hi yjw1,welcome to RadioReference. :)

It really is slim pickin's with a scanner that old for the Ottawa Ontario Canada area.

How about you take a look at the products at DurhamRadio down in Whitby.
Police Scanners by Uniden Bearcat, AOR, Icom, Alinco trunking - Canada
(This is a Canadian link, just in case some Americans viewing it think the prices are out of line)

I would say a PSR 300 or Uniden 346XT would be great entry level trunkers.
If you want to hear the OPP then a digital model is what you need : a PSR 500 or BCD396XT.
Note that the prices on digital scanners are significantly higher.
Your new scanner should have EDACS and LTR as those trunked systems are used heavily in the area.
