• Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio.

We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

If you violate these guidelines your post will be deleted without notice and an infraction will be issued. We are not against discussion of this issue. You just need to do it in the right place. For example:

Lets hope they get back on track. 480 jobs out of 40,000 equals 1.2%. Maybe now they may have answers to our questions. It really doesn't surprise me at all.

1) Why the heck is something about Radio Shack posted in the Uniden forum?
2) This belongs in the Tavern

Honestly? One reason is that a lot of "Uniden Snobs" will use any chance to snipe at radio shack, even though RS still sells several uniden-built scanners :)

I have one bit of advice for RS: stop selling all that stuff that can be bought easily at Lowes or Home Depot, i.e. telephone jacks and wall plates. That would free up one whole section for display of other stuff like antenna mounts and things for hams/scannists.

They pulled out of the ham market, and for good reason. Hams are the cheapest people around, and they can get things cheaper online. Except for the HTX202, most RS ham gear was really lacking.

Hey I go to the shack whenever I need a telephone jack. Maybe Lowes and Home Depot should stop carrying them.

While I'm not a ham(yet), I am a perfect example of this. I bought my Pro-97 on eBay because it was cheaper and came with some extras.

+1

I like to go to the smaller stores as well. No need to walk through the mega mart(s) when I need a few specific items.

Yeah. People who own Uniden scanners NEVER step foot in the local RS store...

I think you take your "moderator" title a little too seriously.

Why did you post it in the uniden forum?

You better rethink that, he's one of the few mods on this site that's not on a complete power trip.

It's been stated in the past that the discussings about any RS closings should be in the tavern, as these postings deal with a business, and not anything specific to any scanners sold by RS.

uh, not - Maaybe I shouldn't admit it I own several Uniden scanners and I go to RS all the time- Just bought an f to bnc and f to uhf adapter yesterday. RS is nothing like it was when I was younger. Especially the Orange, CT store.

Well heck,
I guess that means that anybody can start cross posting threads anywhere..let anarchy rule...I mean since I have seen an Icom ad in the same magazine that an AOR radio was featured I will start posting a bunch of Icom threads in the AOR forum
I am just trying to help keep order in the forums...Oh and by the way, looks like the thread got moved anyway so apparently someone also agrees with me
And please give other examples where I have taken my "moderator" title "too seriously"...I want you to be able to back up what you say with facts...please let me know when you find examples...in the mean time I will go back to supporting the bulk of RR.com forum members who understand why forums are divided into topics....
Happy Monitoring!

Hmm that I can't agree with. Most of the Hams I know are not cheap and are willing to spend $$ including myself

I believe Radio Shack just did not know how to market Ham Radios....I mean selling Computers is easy...just look at what Best Buy, Circuit City, etc are doing...but Radio Shack just did not have a clue as to what the Ham Radio Market wanted or needed...nor did they really seem to care....

Anyone remember this radio?
It was out just long enough to gather some attention then they yanked it from the market...it's a shame...always wanted to pick one up for the heck of it....

I have one :) But the display got scratched up while in Storage. In fact, I never charged the battery, I just used the AA pack.

Radio Shack of old is gone, folks. HTX202, gone forever. A clone of Icom IC-02AT, damned good radio. They had a 2 meter mobile radio. They used to sell ACCESSORIES for their scanners. They used to have good stock on chicken band antennas.
Alas, Radio Shack is now a subsidiary of Cingular Wireless and Sprint Wireless. You make no money working there unless you push wireless, therefore, most RS employees could care less if you come in looking for that CB antenna, etc.
Radio Shack makes no money on that stuff, either. Getting the picture?

I was in radio shack earlier because I needed an audio cable. I noticed there weren't as many cables as there normally is. I asked an employee and he said radio shack was phasing out most things other than cellphones, TVs, stereos, and computer stuff. Anybody know anything about this?

One of the main reasons I don't go to radio shack too much anymore (or as they call it here now the source) is the prices...good example here..this same adaptor I pay $1CDN for in a dollar store, compared to $5.49US,anyone need any of these I can get alot of them cheap.:)
