Aw Geez number 117....

Come on guys read the freaking 300+ message thread on this already! :lol:

Ripping part of a phrase from the "Dummies" books this is what one would call....

"A scanner for the rest of us"

Gotta hand it to the marketing geniuses on this one though someone will likely offer a carrying case for this radio.

That and you don't have to shell out $400 to $500 to hear Denver anymore.

Don Starr is calling this one of the most advanced scanners he's ever used.

The "important" specs (at least for the purposes of this discussion) would
include:
* Like a PSR-500 / PRO-106, except for the following:
* Analog only
* UI is totally different, of course. Instead of depending upon a keypad,
which the PRO-107 does not have, nearly everything is "menu-driven"
* Includes RadioReference USA database in the scanner (will be updated
weekly, available for download via the included PC software)
* Stores its working data on removable SD Card (2GB card supplied)
* Number of conventional channels, trunked systems, sites-per-system,
frequencies-per-site, and talkgroups-per-system limited only by
available space on SD Card
* Minimal keypad
* No "program mode" - most programming functions that would be used by
people other than the "target market" are accessible only via the
included PC software
* Includes PC software for "more advanced programming". That PC software:
- Also imports from the SD Card's RadioReference database
- Allows entry of any channels, systems, talkgroups (including "iCalls"),
etc. that the scanner supports
- Allows modification / customization of items imported from the RR DB
- Handles on-line updates of PC software, scanner firmware, and weekly
RadioReference database

This is why people have stopped asking questions in the forum. As another member stated.
Why ask questions if they are already answered? Apparently you had difficulty finding the thread - so I helped you out instead of letting your question sit unanswered (which based on the time interval, was the case here.) Stop whining and say "thanks" or just stay quiet next time.

Maybe the next version will include digital.
I'm surprised by the download feature. Free? Others support RR in order to link directly to the DB with software.....

Gee wonder how many people would of went out and bought this, got it home just to realize it can't listen to the state system?
Don't believe it was every promoted as being able to monitor the DTRS, I mean you get what you pay for and when DTRS scanners are running close to $500 this holiday season why would one that's half that price have the same features?

But it's still great for the metro area Aurora, Denver, Lakewood, West Metro, Westy, Arvada etc

As noted in the other thread already, RR worked this out with the manufacturer. Which means that RR is getting support out of the deal.

Does this scanner do Aviation better then the Pro-96?
I've never thought the Pro-96 was a good aircraft scanner, some of the best aviation scanners are the older Pro-2006 and Pro-43 or at least that's what I have dedicated to aircraft monitoring. Don't forget the importance of an outdoor discone for the right freqs also Charles.

Well, Good for RR.
It's actually great for RR :)

More exposure and revenue for the site only means more stability in assuring the site remains the best scanner/radio resource in the world, not to mention the means to continue to make improvements and add new features, etc. :cool:

Sure revenue is nice for website operations however forgetting that subscriber and visitor participation and encouraging participation make the site. A pile of cash means nothing without it.

Image is everything in the net world.

But doesn't a pile of cash appear as a result of success? I can't imagine it wouldn't....

And subscriber and visitor participation is encouraged here, and I take exception to anyone saying that it's not. You can envy the success of this site all you want Phil, but your view of this site and how it operates may be one way, but that's not necessarily how everyone else sees it.

Envy are you serious? I needed a good laugh this morning.

I participate because I give a damn about this hobby and this is where the scanner users hang out.

My take was on scannerfreaks emphasis on the monetary aspect in his post.

Yes. And roughly once per year it shows.

But this site offers so much "gratis", and it says something when it can generate revenue for the extras.

The last word on this is yours for the taking-

I think the point here, Greens, is that we have mods other than you, guys who don't "know" us because they're not from here, coming in and lecturing us on asking questions that "have already been answered", as though you (as our CO mod) are somehow unable to mod your own group. I believe the term for that is hijacking a thread, but hey, I'm no expert. And I also think you're more than capable of riding herd on the CO wild bunch.
That's it from me, don't want to get banned.
