Transit is still on VHF, there is a UHF simulcast as of right now.

And the simulcast isn't even full duplex...

NYCRADIO,

Wow, where did you dig up such an old frequency list from?

156, check www.n2nov.net for something quite a bit more current (although still somewhat out-of-date). Scroll down on the home page about a third of the way and look for the caption, in black, "Metropolitan Transportation Authority." You'll find a host of hyperlinks under that that detail all of the rail operations under the MTA's control.

n2nov,

Okay...well probably the most important update would be for the information under the blue caption at NYC TRANSIT

Manhattan South - Division 1 covers Districts 1, 2, and 4.
Queens - Division 3 covers Districts 20 and 23
Brooklyn East - Division 3 covers District 33
Brooklyn South - Division 4 covers Districts 30, 32, and 34

additional updates

160.3200 MTAPD PN (Penn & Flatbush Station)
160.4550 MTAPD E1 (LIRR)
160.6050 MTAPD E2 (LIRR car to car)
161.2200 MTAPD N1 (Metro North)
160.5600 MTAPD N2 (MNR car to car)

155.7600 MTAPD (test repeater not in use)

161.2800 Metro North (Harlem Line RTC)
160.9500 Metro North (Hudson Line RTC)
160.5450 Metro North (New Haven Line RTC)

The MTAPD created in 1998 merging the LIRR PD and Metro North RR PD, now including the former Staten Island Rapid Transit PD. Regretfully the MTAPD overlooked their outdated system and is now working on improvements.
The MTAPD in Staten Island still uses the SIRT dispatch (UHF) and monitor NYPD 120, 122, 123,

I would also like to put out there the question of, does NYC Transit still use split simplex for their subway lines? I worked for a contractor in the mid 80's that replaced all the simplex Motorola train radios, based on the HT200 with a custom GE that had split simplex channels for each line, IRT, BMT and IND. They were old N.Y.P.D. channels from the Brooklyn area, in the 151 and 158 mhz area. It was supposed to correct the train to train chatter by the engineers and give dispatch the capability to override a train transmission if it was needed .

Well S.I. is going to the N.Y.S.P. 800 system very soon. I hope it works down there! It would have better to install a VHF repeater on their existing frequency for that yard.

Do you have any source on that? Or is it a speculation?

You mentioned that the MTAPD is working on improvements to their radio system and I happened to come across the MTA Capital Plan for 2010-2014 and found a little bit of information about a dedicated MTAPD radio network that they want to implement.

Public Safety Radio – Phase 2 - $60 million
The goal of this investment is to have a dedicated MTA Police public safety radio system, built
seamlessly to ensure systemwide radio coverage, allowing future interoperability among
participating agencies and standardization of one system for the MTA Police. The 2005-2009
Capital Program included $45 million to fund design and early construction work intended to
integrate the MTA police radio system with the New York State Wireless Network. However,
with the future of this statewide system uncertain, alternative approaches for integrating the
MTA Police system are being evaluated; design and construction will be advanced upon
completion of this evaluation.

There was also some information in there about the LIRR and the improvments that they want to do to their system such as narrowband and P25.

I wouldn't be looking for any improvements in the near future due to the total ineptness of the past MTA . The monies that were allocated several times (both in the millions) was spent on other things before they got a chance to use it for the radio upgrades. Now with the financial fix they are in and the failed NYS SWEN system (which they were betting on) they have a problem. Until they straighten out their in house mess I wouldn't count on any fix coming soon.

Well hopefully this time they are actually use the money that they have allocated towards a new radio system. From what it sounds like it seems like the current system is antiquated and that they could really use an upgrade I wonder if the MTAPD is going to have any talkgroups on the new MTA wide area LTR system?
