I read a thread in the forum that Portland rail roads have gone digital (APCO-25).

Is this true for Tillamook, and the rest of them?

Thanks for the answer.

, Jim

The American Association of Railroads [AAR] was one of the original supporters of P-25.
So I would guess that many will end up going that way.

UP is using a Mixed Mode (with full time P25 audio) trunking system in Portland, OR (Albina Yard)and they have P25 repeaters from Seattle, WA down to Eugene, OR.

What is really going to change is the move to narrow band which will double the amount of frequencies available. 12.5 khz. The current plan is to adopt 12.5 KHz technology by 2013.

The Motorola Astro Spectra locomotive radio is priced somewhere around 5k and with a few
thousand locos and MOW equip. not to mention hundreds of wayside remotes, it'll be years before a big changover happens. They can't keep their trains on schedule as it is. Tillamook is still analog. If your radio doesn't do narrowband, you should be ok, it just won't pick up distant signals like before such as 160.5225 vs 160.525
