Railroad Base Antenna help

Hey guys, I need some advice. I have a Railroad Scanner Stream and would like to upgrade my antenna. I have a friend in Birmingham and one in Auburn who have the TrainTenna Outdoor Model and they love it. I like that it has some gain and I'm pretty much sold on it but it's just a tad bit more than I can afford right now.

Anyway does anyone have any recommendations for something similar to the Traintenna vertical antenna that is just a little cheaper?

If so please post up, otherwise I guess I'll try to pinch my pennies.

Ever think of building/making your own?

Using some of those HAM antenna projects as an example you just might get yourself something just as well as the TrainTenna but at a fraction of the cost.

I agree... Its not hard to learn to sweat copper tubing together, and its alot of fun to build your own antenna.


I have a homebrew 2M J-Pole and it performs great! I could get you some plans to build one centered on the RR Band.

Try the OSJ VHF Open Stub J poles.

The Traintenna does work nice.... the N connector is totaly overkill for most applications. But the N is superior.
