Railroad FCC Liscense

Hi Everyone. Hopefully you may be able to help me with this one. What FCC Lisc. does the Railroad require you to have before you can work in their communications departmet? Does anyone on here know????

The railroad radio service doesn't require any operator license,
but the railroad companies might require their employees to have a
general radiotelephone operator license.

I have my element 1 for GROL and am in the process of obtaining my element 3. But i was told by an individual that the there were no elements to pass in the FCC liscense that the Railroad required you have. I am ameteur radio and i know its not it.

I would assume that it would be a liscense that would grant you permissions to work on radio equipment, and i thought that what the GROL did.

Hope this makes sense what i am trying to say. Thanks again for the reply. Anyone else out there maybe know???

You don't need a FCC license to repair railroad radios or any other private
land mobile service radios.

But that doesn't stop a railroad from requiring its employees to have a
GROL or other technician certification.

Back in 1987 I was offered a job with the Union Pacific Railroad in Omaha as a Radio Technician. They wanted technicians to have a General Radiotelephone Operators License and be a Certified Electronics Technician.

I have the GROL and they would pay me to take the CET test.

I don't know what the requirements are now because I turned down the offer.

What you might want to do is inquire, with the Railroads you are interested in, what they require for the position. Also some roads use state employment agencies for hiring, check with them too.
