10:00 a.m. – Fire apparatus parade begins at Hillsborough and Boylan streets.
Parade proceeds east to the Capitol, turns south on Salisbury Street, left on Morgan Street, and continues onto Fayetteville Street.
Please note that the best viewing will be on Fayetteville Street.
Planned participants:
11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. – Apparatus muster, in parking lots at the end of Fayetteville Street along Lenoir Street.
- Horse-drawn steamer
- Antique motor apparatus
- Modern fire engines
- Honor guard
- Pipe bands
- Retirees riding tram shuttles
- And more.
Antique apparatus will be pumping, as well as both antique and modern apparatus in static (stationary) display.
Special feature:
Planned displays:
- Raleigh’s horse-drawn, 1905 steam fire engine will be fired and demonstrate pumping at noon.
Trophies to be awarded for:
- Antique apparatus
- Modern fire engines
- Raleigh’s antique apparatus: 1926 American LaFrance, 1950 Mack, 1982 Mack pumpers
- Raleigh’s recently acquired old Engine 1, 1961 American LaFrance pumper
- Raleigh’s tiller, Ladder 4
- Raleigh’s haz-mat and USAR apparatus.
- Winston-Salem hand-drawn hose reel
11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. – Kidde Kid’s Zone in parking lots bordered by Lenoir, McDowell, and South streets.
- Oldest Appearing Apparatus
- Farthest Distance Traveled
- Best in Show.
This family-friendly event will feature numerous activities as displays for children of all ages.
Features:
11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. – Raleigh Fire Department and Raleigh Fire Museum displays, in parking lots on Lenoir Street at the end of Fayetteville Street.
- Bucket brigade for kids
- Squirt water, spin the helmet
- Smoke alarm house target shoot
- Remote controlled fire truck races
- Bean bag toss and other games
- The Home Depot Kid’s Clinic
- Meet Smokey Bear, Blaze, Sparky, and other mascots.
- Learn about safety and fire prevention, with displays from NC Forestry and NC DOI.
- Get free temporary tattoos, a piece of birthday cake, and other giveaways!
Come inside the large white tent and:
1:00 p.m. until... – Firefighter challenges (games) begin in parking lots bordered by Lenoir, Wilmington, and South streets.
- Learn about the Raleigh Fire Department.
- Learn about the Raleigh Fire Museum.
- Purchase museum memberships.
- Purchase centennial stickers, t-shirts, and challenge coins.
- Pre-order the centennial history book.
- View the city’s 1870 fire alarm bell.
- Have a slice of birthday cake!
Four-person teams from around the area will compete in four events:

- Bucket brigade.
- Command and control.
- Hose stream deployment.
- Quick dress.
Food vendors will be present all day, including Barry’s Café. Portable restrooms will be present. Free parking is available at all city of Raleigh parking decks. See maps to parking locations at Maps For Saturday June 16
