I know it is last minute but thought I would put this out there:
I will be Net Control for the Tarheel Scanner/Shortwave net in just a little while at 9pm on the 146.640Mhz RARS Repeater.
You are welcome to check in if you are a licensed ham and if you are a scanner buff feel free to tune in and listen.
Happy Monitoring!

You RDU people sure are sociable with your scanner meetings and Ham nets.

Shoot brother...only had 3 check-in's to the net tonight (But they were 3 quality check-ins)...I have always said if one of you Queen City folks makes the trip up here I will buy you the cold beverage of your choice...there was another forum member who drove up from the coast and I bought him a drink or two at the last meeting :)
And I do plan on making a trek down that way before summertime because I might have some top secret toys to test down that way on Char-Meck

From the RARS.org website:

The repeater is located at the 250' level of a tower owned by the state, near the NC State Fairgrounds. The antenna pattern favors the southeast, with a deep null to the northwest.

So Nope.

See this is where basic radio theory 101 comes into play...you noticed in the text I quoted above you see the phrases "antenna pattern favors" and "Null to the northwest". That alone should clue you in that even though you are ONLY 2 counties away that you will not hear anything.
That means that RARS on purpose directed their signal towards RALEIGH (imagine that) and away from the west to prevent interference with other ham repeaters.
Look over the Wiki...there is a wealth of knowledge stored within...start with the front page and don't stop till you read it all...then you will be strong in the ways of the force young padawan.
