• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

We recently put 75 G5’s into service as our primary pagers, using QCII over 700/800 P25P2 system. One of the county towers is in our town almost in the dead center, we have had a few guys tell us that they are randomly going out of range for very short periods of time. If I had to put a number I would say maybe 10% of them are having this issue. I’ve had my own G5 for over 2 years programmed for the same system and not once ever no matter where I am in town has it lost signal, same for the dept issued one I also have now. My question is has anyone heard of some defective receivers or had this problem also, and is there a way to have the pager run a log of signal strength to see if these guys are in a gap or something. On a side note we have been using the system for our radios for three years with no coverage issues so far

Just happened a few mins ago on my G4; monitoring the Middlesex County, NJ P25 system.
Had the luxury to simultaneously check on a scanner and the control was silent too.
I think we might be referring to the same situation.

In case u didn’t know already that’s the system I’m using. So maybe it’s something system side I just somehow never heard it, which would be weird considering it’s glued to me lol

If you can, check to see if the SMA pin might have been compromised due to someone trying to put a different antenna on the G5. Obviously if that center pin got screwed up or pulled the G5 could exhibit this problem also.

I have that happen consistently on my G5 when I am within a block of a cell site, leaving my neighborhood. It's apparently desense from the strong cell carrier(s). I can rely on it, and maybe that has some connection to your problem.

There is also an area of Denver that apparently has the same situation; reception and loss of signal are intermittent on my G5, and my Uniden SDS-100 totally loses the control channel. I must say, however, that the G5 mostly works in that area; the SDS-100 doesn't even know there is a control channel.

That’s great but “desense” was not the original question of the thread it was if anyone has heard about defective units. I’ve had a G5 for 2 years on this system with not one drop out of range in town. I live probably the closest to the tower out anyone with issues. I’ve also spent 2+ hours at our HQ multiple times which is about 80 yards from our tower without a single out of range, and I’m all over my town without an issue.

Defective units are pretty rare, at least not much of that has been discussed on the boards. But its more likely what you are experiencing is what the others are talking about in reference to the cell towers desensitizing your units. Verizons 700mhz on towers that are lower to the ground give my G4 issues. There is a whataburger near me that every time i enter the parking lot my G4 will show out of range. I can switch to a system farther away thats on 800mhz and no issues. But closer system on 700 and its out of range. I can also walk into the wahatburger and system comes back in range.
There is also a spot on my way home that causes my KNG2-P800 and my G4 to both go out of range, its a short, 50 foot tower behind a gas station that when i am passing by causes stuff to bonk out of range.

To help troubleshoot this, ask the users who are having the issue to try to give you better locations.
Is it possible you got a defective unit or two, sure. but its also possible and more likely your getting some type of interference that is preventing the units form getting good clean signal. Even if you have a system tower in the middle of town with amazing coverage, that cell tower can wipe that out if your within close proximity to it.

J....take your work HT to spots that go out of range on the pager. Bet you a dollar or tshirt that the work radio will still have service. Two different RF designs. Also consider more or new Verizon 700 sites are being rolled out. Consider the CC in use and how that rotates and how may impact desense. Both my pagers do this on various systems. Lastly this is all likely very related to your first question. Oh and there is a tool to collect data off the pager. That file can be analyzed. P25T Scenario Log. 1. Traffic Channel 2. Control Channel, check with your dealer. Good luck!

so being a beautiful 60+ march day in new jersey (whats winter) i went to 2 of the problem spots my guys had given me, first @r60 yes 100% the HT worked with no problem as they have every where(id heard that even thought the unication pagers have a great receiver they dont have as tight RF filter as actual radios) i sat in the exact spot my guy told me for 5 minutes and the pager hummed right along at 5 bars... so i took a picture of the pager with full signal with the background of where he said and sent him a text of it and wham pager drops to 1 bar, 2 bar, out of range. signal came back after and fine again for 3-4 minutes, now i tried a speed test on my phone, same thing out of range. Goto the other guys house where he is having issues, have both pagers sitting in the spot and all around his house,, no issues after asking some questions he tells me he puts his phone right next to his pager when they are charging.
so from my observations my question is could the desense issue work the other way from the phone when sending larger amounts of data?

another question is ive notice alot of these sytems have frequencies listed for them in the 850's would it help to have the CC be up in these frequencies further from the LTE bands??
