• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Alright folks... I've got a few doozies here.

I'm on the hunt for an inexpensive VHF radio. Found an XTS2000 on eBay that I really like, however I'm having some hesitations about pulling the trigger --
As far as programming it, that is. I cannot find the programming software for it anywhere, I've even contacted Motorola and they no longer distribute it. And on top of that, a programming cable for it, preferably with USB.

That same XTS2000... is advertised as a P25 capable radio. Is the radio still capable of handing conventional analog VHF frequencies?

If anyone can point me in the right direction for any of those issues, I'd be wildly grateful!

Onto the next... CP series radios.
I have a set of 4 CP110's, that are only two channels in the UHF band - Whatever the preset frequencies are. 2 of them work on channel 1, and 2 of them work on channel 2, yet all of them communicate together. All four of those radios will communicate directly to my XPR7550 and APX6000, but the XPR's and APX's cannot communicate back to the CP's. Does anybody know anything about the CP radios and would be willing to chime in. I ordered a programming cable but I'm not sure if it's going to work...
At work, we have numerous CP200d's. Are these programmed with TRBO CPS? My boss is asking me to see if I can take a look at some of the settings on them. If not TRBO, what software?

Thanks in advance for any insight to any of my weird stuff!

XTS2000? Did you mean XTS-2500?

The programming software is "out there", you just need to know under which internet rocks to look. Generally not a good idea to discuss that on this site. Motorola doesn't sell it anymore as the radios are long since 'end of life'd'.

There are plenty of USB programming cables out there. Check e-Bay, there are some decent after market brands that work fine. If you are just buying one radio, don't blow a bunch of money on an official Motorola cable.

The XTS-2500 is P25 capable. Key word is 'capable'. Wether or not the feature is active in the flashcode is a different subject. If you want to use P25 conventional, it MUST have it listed in the flashcode. Be careful of e-bay sellers that don't provide a photo of the flashcode with the radio.

Sounds like your PL/DPL settings are incorrect in your radios. They must match.

I'm not familiar with the CP200d's, so can't help there. I'm going to tag this post and see if a moderator will bump it up to the Motorola forum, where you'll likely get more help. Standby…..

Just a heads up, the XTS2000 is a legit radio. Essentially it's an XTS2500 with minor differences.

Yes, the CP200d radios use TRBO CPS and the micro USB plug that's on the side of the radio. It will either use CPS R16 or CPS2.0 based on the firmware/whatever it was last programmed with.

I have 3 or 4 XTS2000, excellent radios. The programming cable will also work with XTS5000 and of course the XTS2500. My programming cable is a serial cable, and I use a serial to USB converter and it works great, never had a problem with it.

There's a Micro USB plug on the radio? I didn't catch one if so.

Look for the small rubberized plastic flap on the side of the radio just below the 2 pin accessory connector. You'll need a small flat blade screwdriver (or similar instrument) to carefully pry it open but there's a USB jack there. The flap is attached at the bottom and swings downward.

DO NOT ASK ME FOR HELP PROGRAMMING YOUR RADIO. NO.
Every Motorola radio I know of is capable of basic FM analog operation. If there is one that lacks that basic functionality, I literally have not heard of it. Even every TRBO product has analog FM to the best of my knowledge.

Disclaimer: I'm not the ultimate authority on every radio Motorola has ever made, or even on its current product line.
