I've had my pro 2052 dual trunking scanner for 3 days. I might have to return it since the people at the shack where I bought it don't seem to understand anything and I am lost. I can get the next county over, (but I don't CARE about them). I'm not really a ditzy chick, but somehow I am missing something, and I have spent HOURS each day trying to work this out ...Pardon me if I don't use all the correct jargon...
I just want to be able to listen to my own #%$&*!@%* home town on the scanner! But my town uses trunking frequencies. I know precisely the frequencies that I want to program into a bank or two... BUT, it looks like I am to provide a RANGE of frequencies. I've read the book over and over... I don't GET IT. I don't have ranges in the book to type in exactly the whole list of ranges, so I don't get it. Unless you count the list that says for example, 935.0125 - 939.9875MHz (in 12.5kHz steps). Is THAT supposed to mean sumpthin to me?!!! I want to program a trunked frequency of 860.712500. So I did, but it won't do anything, but I didn't think it would anyway.
The fella at the shack says HE had it on and HE got (my town) all over the place -- heh, yeah right. We are in a snow emergency and I can't get a #%^&$%$@#! thing to come up for MY area. I've looked thru the forums, but I am lost. All else is not so tough to understand except this trunking programming....
Anybody... take pity on poor lil me, after all, it IS Christmas! Thanks.

First of all welcome to the site.

Second, there are several people who can help you get your 2052 up and going, but it is much more useful to them (and you) if they had some idea of what you were trying to put in.

Suppose you supply a little information, like where you are, what you are specifically trying to listen to, etc. Trying to help you without that information is pretty hard. 8)

For the state you live in, go to that forum on this board. Post your location and ask if anyone has your type of scanner or what you really need to purchase. You should get several good answers. Try to locate a local guru that is up to date with local info. From this point you could get a refund at R/S or exchange for something that will work. R/S is stuck with 2052's as newer scanners with better tec, Alpha Tags and other details sold as soon as they hit the shelves. R/S hires clerks and teach them to ring up a sale. They dont have a clue about 800 trunking systems. One clerk in 1000 maybe. Stay with this web site for good info. Good Luck, Larry

thanks

Thanks for the replies. I feel better already. I will go see if I can find my state and post in a forum there....
AND, I am considering the possibility of returning it -- though I'd have to drive on some nasty slick roads, but I don't care, I'm sick of this thing by now. If I return it, then I will need to figure out what to purchase instead, UGH!!! (Somewhere else of course.) Maybe a Bearcat? :?:
Wherever I go to purchase one, whoever takes care of me, better TAKE CARE OF ME, LOL!
It really has been lousy service, but I thought I could do some of this on my own... I had taken it back for him to reprogram it, I told him I couldn't get my town. Geez. And he tells me I don't need to use the trunk button. I guess that should have tipped me off, but I was just learning... I might have to give it one more chance if this dude can do the trunking programming for me. I just don't know.
I will hang around and see what I can learn here...
Bah -- humbug!

well since you started this thread.. keep it going...

you never did say what state you are in and what system you are trying to listen too... and RS people arnt the best resource for scanning questions... unless that RS employee is into scanning like us anyway... they only really know about upsaleing service contracts and cell phone subscriptions...

hope you figure your problem out...

When you say ranges I automatically start thinking "search" and "scan" have gotten confused.

Searching is more for detective type work. You would use search to find out what is in a certain chunk of the radio range like 935.0125 - 939.9875MHz (in 12.5kHz steps).

when you scan you are listening to only what has been programmed in like the specific frequencies you mentioned having, like specific chanels. 945.0000, 945.1275...

It would be possible that the RS guy does in fact have a scanner working, but he may have no idea how someone programmed in the frequencies to make it work.

I don't have a 2052, nor have I ever used one, so I can't tell you specifics on how to program this particular model. These two concepts can sound very similar when first starting out, and in a conventional radio system (not trunking like you want to do) they might provide similar results, but they are very different.

If this sounds like something familiar (maybe the manual was a little vague) please let us know and we can go on in further detail about the general concepts that might make this a little easier to understand what the radio is doing. DONT RETURN IT!!!!!! you'll definantly miss out on everything if you don't even have a radio!
