Hi,

I live @ 30 miles from Philadelphia. I use to be able to receive the Police and Fire comms on UHF and VHF. Since they switched to 800 I receive nothing with the roof antenna I was using. My current radio is a BCD 396 and before that I had a PRO 2006. Can anyone advise on the how far the 800 system can reach? Am I too far away for this type of monitoring? Thanks.

The most important things are the length and type of cable, and how high up the antenna is.

It depends on the system setup. Some systems, by FCC rules, may not cover more than 3 miles (I think it's three) outside the target area. (State, county, or whatever)
