Not sure if this is the right subforum.

Wondering how SDS200's connect to the Rangecast system. The LAN connection out of the scanner provides crystal clear audio, but the 3.5mm speaker out only passes along very loud hum/buzz audio. All 12 of our SDS200's are equipped with the special hum enhancing mitigation part. :-|

You need ground loop isolators to connect analog audio to other devices. The buzz you get if you don't has nothing to do with the RFI noise, it's a combination the same 60Hz hum/buzz you get in PA systems when you have ground loops, and the audio amp complaining because half the output is shorted.

The SDS200's have built in hum from a grounding problem in the design, this is not a connection to external device issue. There are only a very few special built non humming SDS200's that escaped the factory, and no one can determine why they don't hum.

I found some documentation on Rangecast, apparently the IP enabled LAN jack equipped SDS200 is connected via 3.5m humming output, while the old 996 is connected via serial pot datastream...that tracks :-|

I think it just means Rangecast was designed around the 996 and 3.5mm jacks are the onyl way they can force an SDS onto their system.

Hmm. Seems like there should be some way to bridge the LAN data to a serial port, since the SDS uses pretty much the same data commands and formats as previous models.

If you are using an analog audio connection to other devices (like a computer sound card input), I would think it would be better to use the headset out jack on the SDS200 rather than the external speaker jack. The headset output jack is a lower level audio that is more appropriate to feed an audio input and it usually does not have any hum on it that may be present on the SDS200 external speaker jack. You will probably still need a ground loop isolator.
