• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

DO NOT ASK ME FOR HELP PROGRAMMING YOUR RADIO. NO.
For a long time now I've been suffering with a problem with my Rangr and S850 setup which
causes the talkgroups to be mixed up after programming into the control head. Some
are fine, but others aren't.

For example, I can program a given agency, call it the dog catchers, with 16 groups in
their list into the radio, and program another agency, call it the cat catchers, with 16 troups in their list, as well, and when I read the radio back, the dog catcher's list will have maybe half a dozen empty groups attached to the end of the list and the cat catcher's list will only have the first eleven entries in it. And some of the talkgroups will be assigned to the wrong names, too.

It's happened on clean installs on more than one computer and with more than one S-850 control head. I have FOUR control heads and the screw-up results are always the same.

Originally I had a LOT of system data in it and thought that maybe I just had too much data in there, so I started over and put in just ONE agency's lists. It still screwed up.

Any ideas?

I know, the S850/Rangr combo is getting kind of old, but it would serve my needs great
as the ultimate mobile scanner, and did for a long time until it started screwing up.

The only thing that changed between the time it was working properly and the time it
stopped working properly was that I went to add in a fourth site and new group data
for it, and once I put that in, it's never been right.

I thought I'd ask HERE for a little help.

I'm PROBABLY out of my support contract with macom. Just like the majority of the people on this board, I'd imagine.

Besides, they don't support the Rangr/S850 anymore anyway, except to provide parts or
copies of the manuals.
