I was able to get three more frequencies for the Louisa site last night. That site is using the same four frequencies as the MPT-1327 system. The channel IDs are from DSD+.

Anyone else monitoring this system? There are several unidentified sites in the Wiki.

Dave, I try to monitor this system from the Western end of Spotsy near the Orange line. I have an SDS -100 but I’m not sure I have it programmed correctly. Can you advise how to properly program the system?

There's been some confusion as to whether an SDS100 can actually track a Tier III system properly. It has to do with the difference between LCNs, LSNs, channel numbers, etc. See these threads, if you want to do some light reading!

Even when the "correct" LCNs are entered in the Unidens, some people are still reporting that they don't track perfectly. I would say it's worth a shot trying to get it to work in the SDS100, but DSD+ seems to be a better option for successfully following Tier III systems like Rappahannock Electric Cooperative.

Thanks, I appreciate it! I will do some further reading. I am able to hear some traffic, but like others, I may be missing some.

I'm posting images showing how I have REC programmed into my SDS-100. However, it only gets a fraction of the REC transmissions that my Whistler WS-1080 gets. I've compared them side-by-side.

Thanks! Yes, I think that is what I’m experiencing but I’m glad I can compare your programming to mine.

For what it's worth..... I have my SDS 100 & BC 325 P2 programmed more simply and REC comes in loud & clear (including "private" unit-to-unit call) Here's what I have (see attached). I'm in Berryville.

Ok, I'm now attempting to setup trunk tracking in DSDPlus FL for S1-3.1 noted in #48 above but I haven't had much success with the DSDPlus Networks, Sites and Frequencies files. Does anyone have examples of their files they would be willing to post here ? That would be greatly appreciated.

It looks like you have it set up as conventional frequencies. You're not trunktracking, but you might hear more than if you were, since the Unidens seem to have a bit of trouble with these Tier III systems. I wonder if there's something about it being a Tait brand system that's giving the scanners trouble...?

Also, your frequencies are slightly off - not that it will make much difference in reception. A 6.25 kHz step is used for these 217 MHz frequencies.

This site comes in well in Fredericksburg even with a cheap SDR/antenna. It must be up on a mountain to the west/north of me.

I'm using the DSDPlus.frequencies file. Here's what I entered in that file for the Fredericksburg site:

TIII, 1, 1.2, 103, 217.63125, 0.0, 0
TIII, 1, 1.2, 115, 217.70625, 0.0, 0
TIII, 1, 1.2, 139, 217.85625, 0.0, 0

Change your values accordingly - instructions are in the file. I don't believe I had to fool around with the Networks or Sites file to get this to work.

Ok, I've tried programming the Fredericksburg REC site conventionally in my SDS-100. It's similar to what EarlSuitor posted above, although I entered the exact frequencies given in the database. My problem is that the scanner sticks on the first frequency, designated as the control channel. I have to skip it to monitor anything else. I know this frequency also carries voice traffic. Any ideas on how to overcome this problem and catch voice traffic on 217.63125 while being able to scan other frequencies?

I do pick up traffic on at least the second frequency on the site, after locking out the first.

Yes, that's the problem with trying to scan the frequencies conventionally - I tried that method once too. There is voice traffic on the second slot of the control channel, and there's no way to tell the scanner to disregard the data on the first slot. I don't think there's any way around this problem, other than to trunktrack the system properly. Maybe a future firmware update will improve tracking of Tier III systems.
