Hi folks, I made a request last week to have the RCMP Transportable P25 system updated. Before it was changed, it had a site in Ottawa and a site in Newfoundland (I last detected it in St John's during a public safety conference, one week long, several years ago). Just idly thinking about it tonight, and haven't heard about it being spotted/in use anywhere lately. Now that RCMP essentially have a P25 presence in every province on some kind of modernized system, I wonder if the traveling roadshow is packed up for good?

I am going to say not necessarily NO. While I have all the freqs programmed into one scanner bank (and have heard butkus since) , I would agree that in BC we have not seen it for years. AFAIK, it would be deployed during a major event where they want to localize the comm, and not tie up the main dispatch channels. Having looked at a small detachments radio while flipping thru the ENC channels there were TAC and other repeaters available depending on zone they were in. I bet you there is a cache of that old equipment sitting in storage (labelled only use as last resort) !
