RCMP Transportable System

Hi folks,
I made a request last week to have the RCMP Transportable P25 system updated. Before it was changed, it had a site in Ottawa and a site in Newfoundland (I last detected it in St John's during a public safety conference, one week long, several years ago). It didn't seem right to have it posted in locations it only existed briefly, and it also didn't seem right to me to have it listed in Ottawa, since it is highly unlikely it'd be used there.

The DB admins have solved this by putting it in "Provincewide" in every province and territory of the country.

That's the reason for the whole country turning green (yellow, now that it's been more than 24 hours since the change).

If you're not interested in that system, you can of course lock it out of your scanner.

Out of curiosity What's the operational purpose of this system?

My past experience with it and its Mot Type II predecessor is that it's hauled around to places where RCMP comms are required and the infrastructure isn't there. It was about 5 years ago that there was a law enforcement conference of some sort in St John's and they deployed it there for what sounded like escorting dignitaries to and fro. In 2002, the G8 summit that brought a large number of world leaders to the Kananaskis region of southern Alberta used a similar transportable system for all kinds of law enforcement and protection for RCMP and other agencies.

It remains to be seen if it's going to continue on traveling roadshows now that almost all parts of the country are installing modern/upgraded radio systems. I don't know if anybody has logged this system anywhere since I saw it in Newfoundland.

Actually the P25 transportable system regularly visits Ottawa around Canada Day and gets
used on that day (in additional to regular system). It shows up from time to time other than that.

NAC:FED

There is an encrypted system in Ottawa NAC:FED.

It is active now, 421.9375 but no control channel.

Does anyone know about this system?

Memory serves that there are a number of P25 conventional frequencies in use nationwide for various RCMP and other federal LE operations.

I found that frequency several years ago on a visit to Ottawa and it's conventional.
