If you read the post it says they are rebanding to the new I-Tac - I-Call freqs.
Why would any town do that when we all have to wait for the state to change the infrastructure first? The West Hartford cars will be the only ones in the state on the new channels, weird!

Due to the fact that WH has had their own I-xxx equipment for some time now...and that the state also has reachable repeaters. All you do it program the new and the old into the field radios and the consolettes. When everyone is switched over, you take the old ones out of the field radios and your done. Pretty simple.

Why program now then remove the old, just wait and progrem in the new when the time comes and the entire region changes. Pretty simple.

In the public safety field, when things start to change over, and there is plenty of legacy stuff running around, you run both.

If your traveling in an area that is rebanded, but another area isn't...and you happen to be traveling in an area that isn't, how are you going to communicate? The new channels won't work on the old ones.

Here is an example.

West Hartford crusier is traveling to Whelen. ONLY the rebanded channels are in the radio. CSP hasn't rebanded down Route 9 yet, and the WHPD guy comes across an accident in an area with poor cell phone reception. He can't use his ICALL due to the rebanding, and he is out of range of his trunking system.

Now, with both channels in there, your good to go.

The ASTRO Spectra's can have 255 channels. Its not like the WH radios are THAT filled up. Plenty of room. 1000 channels with HOST12 in the XTL/XTS5000's. Programming in another zone or a few channels isn't going to break the bank.

Do the new frequencies even work yet for West Hartford? I tried them manually and havent heard anything yet as of the other day.

If stamford goes to 700 MHz does that mean that they will have to reprogram the new radio system that they just installed?

Are any other towns in Fairfield County planning on going to 700 MHz or staying in 800 MHz range once the rebanding is done?

West Hartford has not changed yet.

Trunked radios can be programmed with any frequency that the system uses or will be using. When the old data channel stops, the radio should scan the programmed frequencies without user intervention and find the new data channels. If the system ID & Connect tones match, the system looks for the preprogrammed talkgroups that are attached to that system.
In other words, if the future system control frequencies were programmed into the radios, it will start working when the switch is thrown for the new freqs.

The reason I ask is because on the BCD396T the lastest firmware addresses the rebanding. But I am unsure what to fill in to the custom band numbers. The base Freq and offset. There's a plan 1 and plan 2. I wanted to understand what to put in there before it happens. I am sure it's simple but havent had one to test yet.

that would be best separated from the rebanding thread and asked in the general Uniden forum.

I looked at my 996 and found the tables. I am sure there is a generic entry for it as the new Motorola channel numbers are common nationwide.
