RE: Feature not often used
I just joined this thread so I don't know if this was discussed, but my guess is it hasn't. After months of playing with the BC246T and the different ways you can program it, this is what I have come up with, that works best for me at home. First of all any system that is programmed and not assigned to a quick key is always active unless it is locked out. I like to listen to detective and mostly inactive talkgroups that are not in use often but give a lot of good activity when they are in use. I programmed all these systems and talkgroups into the scanner and did not assign a quick key to it.
I want to listen to the above all the time. Sometimes they are not that active or I would like to listen to all Fire-Rescue systems around. I use bank 8 for that. I program all system control freqs into bank 8 and program the talkgroups that I most want to listen to. Then when I want to listen to all Fire-Rescue I just turn on bank 8. When I don't I turn it off.
Then there are times when there is no activity I care to listen to in the banks programmed in the first paragraph above or in the Fire-Rescue bank. So I program systems with a lot of activity such as PD Dispatch into bank 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10.
Now some of the systems in the 3 groups above migtht be duplicated. In fact they might be duplicated 3 times. I assign different names to the system each time it is dupplicated. Some might say this is a waste of memory space. No problem the BC246T has a very large amount of memory. Also make sure that all of the systems above are in "SCAN" mode or you will hear everything in the system.
So in normal use I first listen to the scanner with all banks turned off. If not much is happening I turn on bank 8. If I still want to get more action I turn on any of the systems assigned to anyother quick key. Also keep in mind you can turn on all quick keys or just some. Also keep in mind more than 1 system can be assigned to each quick key. This works best when programming small systems.
