Re icom r7000 antenna ariel

Hi im getting a Icom r7000 and i live in a flat the landlord is a bit funny what goes outside so i have taken a look at the nomad scanner ariel the white one in a plastic looking casing i was wondering i could hide it behind our toulet stench pipe outside or the loft i live on the second floor theres ground first second (mine)
i just wondered which will be best inside the loft or hung on the gutter outside behind the pipe i use 400 mhz mainly thanks mike
also is there a mod for going below the 25 mhz?

Getting the aerial outside will get you the best performance. There are even ones made to look like the stench pipe (sewer vent). Anything small like that will not work well below 25 MHz though. That requires a larger antenna for good reception. Depending how close you are to the transmitter, etc. an antenna in the loft might work fine too. I would suggest getting one that can be mounted outside, but try it out inside first. If it works well then great. If not, put it outside and go from there. 400 MHz shouldn't require a large antenna.
