My RH996 was mounted at the back of the cubby hole in my Sport Trac, and I was getting tired of having to reach to hit the buttons. So, I decided to put my cupholder clamp into usage. As you will note in the pictures, I used a wire loom to cover the unsightly wires.

Remote Head

Can you tell me how you wired your scanner so that you can turn your scanner on/off through the remote head. I don't have a 996 - I have the 396 - but so far, I haven't been able to figure out how to avoid having to turn on the scanner AND the remote head every time.

Even though the main unit is behind the back seat, the power lead that goes to it also feeds the remote head. That way, when I turn off the ignition, they both shut down. It's funny, because it takes the main unit about 3 seconds longer to "activate" than the remote head.

I like it that it is at my fingertips now!

There is no way with the 396 to turn off the radio.

Hopefully it will come in the future update..

I have it wired to a "cold" fuse (power only when ignition on) and it feeds both units. I don't have a 396, but what I would do is remove the battery pack and then simply wire in the power to the input. Don't see why that wouldn't work.

What? No questions about my AM/FM/CD/DVD/SD/MMC/USB/GPS indash unit?

No wires, I just absorb the audio!

Really, I have the Bearcat ESP 5 speaker that is mounter just behind my head on the b-pillar of my Sport Trac. That way when my wife is riding with me, I can keep the volume low and still hear the 996.

Where do you have the 996 installed?
