Re: OPP Zone 1

Hey guys,

I am having problems listening to the OPP Niagara Detachment using the Niagara channel on Zone 1. I am able to listen to all the others such as Burington, Mississauga, and Whitby on Zone 1. I am using the GRE 500.

Any suggesions, would be greatly appreciated.

Problems as in.....? Poor reception? No reception?

I have no problems listening to Niagara OPP on Skylon or the Fonthill Towers, I'm in Fort Erie and if your talking about using a antenna other then an outside antenna then I can understand, A little whip antenna on your scanner is not going to give you a good signal.

Which tower are you monitoring? I dont think you will hear their comms on anything east of Missisauga. Charlton, Miss, Fonthill & Skylon would be good towers to monitor

You can hear comms on the Burl 5Charlie & Niagara 5Golf multi-select? (patch?) right now. You also cannot hear only one detachement at a time, they are always joined at the hip on the same talkgroup.

They are active right now off the Charlton (Ham) tower on 8672.

I believe that I am actually monitoring the Niagara Falls tower. I didn't program the scanner myself since I am new to the hobby. Is there anyway to change the frequency for the Niagara channel from one tower to another tower for example for the GSR 500.

Thanks,

I dont have your scanner & never used it but I am sure you can monitor multiple towers with your radio.

Skylon is 142.095 I think, is that the frequency that is showing up on your scanner?

Today you should have the option to listen to the MTO, MOH, OPP and MTO enforcement, it is a busy day on the 400 series highways.

A word of advice, learn how to program your scanner by software or hand or you will never figure it out, maybe the person who did it for you doesnt have a clue.

If you have software, ask around for files and see how they look and go from there

I see, what is the most common channel that the Opp use on Zone 1?? This is way too confusing for a newbie...lol
I don't think there is a 'most common channel', heavily populated areas will be more active than out in the boonies. I get Mowat, Brittania and King City towers very well. Most active OPP I would say are Port Credit and Whitby, however York EMS is quite active too. Surprisingly, I hardly see Downsview showing up at all. But have also seen Barrie, Notawasaga, Midland and Dufferin show up on the three mentioned towers.

You are simply going to hesr stuff for your area.
As a rule Downsview (T.O.) is patched with Whitby, P Credit with Cambridge, Burlington with Downsview. Occasionally Caledon is patched with the MNR or the MTO Enforcement.

Dont fret though, eventually you will figure it out if you care to.

Doesnt make sense Path, Downsview covers the busiest roads in the country, they are exremely active on all those towers you mention

That should read Burlington is normally patched with Niagara back there, not with Downsview.... just a typo I'm sure.

On my scanner (BC796D) the Niagara OPP T/G is showing 8675.......why doesn't it show the proper T/G of 8672 ??

Cause it is indicating that you havent altered your status bit in the settings.
8675 would indicate that there is a patch going.

On the Port Credit/Whitby TGs, I usually hear "...any Toronto units..." so maybe the patches are in place as you mentioned. I just go by what I see on the display. Remember though, new digital scanner + OPP comms = newbie listener !

True, Whitby is always patched with Downsview & P.Credit with Cambridge.

Use the simplex frequency, as you know your domicile is right where the 401 is the most used.
