I apologize in advance if this has been asked, but I couldn't find anything in the search. I know almost nothing about scanners but we have some RE3000 race scanners and I wanted to know if they could be used in emergencies for hearing emergency broadcasts? I tried looking this up and all I get is links to racetrack scanning. I don't go to races anymore but hate to get rid of them if they could serve a purpose for emergencies. Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the RR forums. The RE3000 has a frequency range of 450 to 470mhz. So no it does NOT cover AM nor FM broadcast bands.

You could probably get enough by selling them to race fans to buy any sort of general purpose scanners.

If you have analog public safety in your area on the 450 range then yeah, if it’s broadcasts your looking for then try the IFB frequency ranges also in the 450 span. That said just get a BC75XLT, very cheap but decent performing handheld and would blow the RE scanner out of the water for what you’re wanting to do. Those were designed to be turnkey for one very specific use only and in close proximity so it’s not very sensitive receive.

There only good for 450-470 so they won't even do 70cm ham. Would do analog uhf if anybody in your area uses it
