READING, Pa. -- The city fire department and 31 other fire companies and ambulance squads in central and eastern Berks County have won a $1.24 million grant to help them upgrade to the planned county communication system.

"The grant will pay for new mobile radios in fire trucks and ambulances, but not for walkie-talkies, radios in firefighters' personal vehicles or equipment in firehouses and ambulance stations."


walkie-talkies? Could sound a little more professional don't ya think?

Based on how some people communicate over the air using their portables, I think walkie-talkie is quite a fitting descriptor.
