what is the fastest encoder to use because i use w/m encoder and it has liek a 10 sec lag on it

i have a bct-15 and i use the encoder to play my scanner over my computer its the windows media encoder
but i dont want to host i just want to listen to the stream threw my comp
na its my feed but i dont want to host my scanner i just want to listen to MY scanner threw my comp
I run mine through Shoutcast and through Gordons Icecast server. The Shoutcast has about a 30sec. delay running it at Bitrate:24kbps but if I up it to say 32 or 48kbps it shortens the delay down alot but it uses more bandwidth. Now with Gordons Icecast server, I'm sending him 16kbps and it only has a 10 sec. delay.I don't think your computer has much too do with it. That delay is completely normal for windows media encoder. I've run it on both my computers, 1 is an pentium III 1GHz processor 512meg ram and the other is a pentium dual core 3.4 GHz 2 gig ram. I saw no difference in the lag time between the two computers. Of course the dual core machine can handle media encoder better as it is a system resource hog to say the least. Most of the encoders I tried before settling with simplecast have a similar delay. I don't think it can be tweaked in anyway to make the delay shorter. I couldn't find anything in there to tweak the lag time.
