OK - I am not expert in that area but I would think that would also depend on the cpu and architecture of your pc. what are the specifics of the pc you are using(ie: cpu speed, front side bus speed, hd access speed, etc. etc. etc....).

I don't think your computer has much too do with it. That delay is completely normal for windows media encoder. I've run it on both my computers, 1 is an pentium III 1GHz processor 512meg ram and the other is a pentium dual core 3.4 GHz 2 gig ram. I saw no difference in the lag time between the two computers. Of course the dual core machine can handle media encoder better as it is a system resource hog to say the least. Most of the encoders I tried before settling with simplecast have a similar delay. I don't think it can be tweaked in anyway to make the delay shorter. I couldn't find anything in there to tweak the lag time.

yea i hate the delay some because you want to look and see what channel it was and its aredy gone

Ok, I'm a little confused now. Are you having problems with lag tine on hosting a feed or listening to someone else's feed???

If you're not looking to host a scanner feed, just take MS Encoder out of the mix. Plug your scanner into your Line-In jack and unmute it. You'll hear the audio through your computer speakers.

In the system volume settings you can unmute the line in or mic, which ever you are using and then it will come out the speakers with no delay. I'm using icecast so I'll have to look in the configuration for that delay time.

Simple answer.... ICECAST with an m3u file. Their feed is more like 1 to 2 seconds delay from the actual transmission.
That's much more complicated than plugging the scanner in to the computer and unmuteing...

why not just turn it on then, and turn up the volume on the scanner?

I run mine through Shoutcast and through Gordons Icecast server. The Shoutcast has about a 30sec. delay running it at Bitrate:24kbps but if I up it to say 32 or 48kbps it shortens the delay down alot but it uses more bandwidth. Now with Gordons Icecast server, I'm sending him 16kbps and it only has a 10 sec. delay.
