• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Back when it first came out, it was all the rage. Never owned one but have talked to many of them a LOT of years back. Been into Ham Radio since the early 80's. My base was a Cobra 2000. Problem with most CB radio's is you don't know if it has been modified or a GOLDEN screw driver has been in it. Beware. No idea on a fair price for one.

I had (and still have in a cabinet back at my home in Va) the 23 channel predecessor, the TRC-30a Navaho. I ran it with a D-104 on the TUG8 stand back in the 70's. Fabulous radio.

However, heed ranger821's warning about old, used cb radios. To add to the man-caused problems, some radio components will degrade over time, so there could be problems from simple aging of the components. If you want the piece for nostalgia, fine - looks like one sold on ebay for $10. If you want a cb you know will work, I'd add a few bucks to get a new one...consider going ssb too.

From past experience, if it is indeed a solid rig and is stock with no major blemishes and in excellent operating condition, maybe $75.00. Factor in age and replacement of some older caps and go with $35.00.

Nice radio with a excellent reputation.

I thought of that. Seems the first thing they do is mod the hell out of it, most are not tech-savey.
Thanks for the imput.

If you can find a new Cobra 2000. Buy it. I have not looked at CB in a while but that 2000 would talk all over the world on sideband and a moonracker 4 antenna at 50 feet. 12 watts out no more.

I would go to ssb, you can pickup a refurbished COBRA for under $90, and still have the 2 year guarantee on it...I quit cb years ago, a ham ticket is great 10 hours of study or less you can get your tech license and talk around the world on 10 meters<beside 11 meters>.

I owned a TRC 431 and I liked the radio very much. i am into Cb radios still but more into higher end ones like the Undien Washington and Cherokee CBS1000. they also have SSB and are modifiable. My only concern with the TRC 431 is that they are not fused and may have caused 2 home fires and a garage fire in this area. An in line fuse would remove any potential danger I think. A reasonable price for one in good shape with a mic would be between $20 - $50.00. You can pay a bit more and you can get them for a bit less. I'd be happy with buying one now for $20.00.

I hope that helped.
