I cleaned up my old (1985-ish) Realistic scanner. Plugged it in and programmed the local police / fire frequencies from River Vale, NJ using a frequency listing that I got off of the internet. The unit does not pick anything up. I am able to receive transmissions from the weather station so I know the unit works. I believe the scanner is analog. Does anyone know if the town changed to digital or some other system?

Northwest Bergen CENTRAL Dispatchs. River Vale Police,Fire and EMS.

PD 1 and PD 2, as they are listed, don’t have River Vale PD traffic unless for interoperability.

“PD 1” as listed in now Emerson PD and only Emerson PD.
“PD 2” as listed is Hillsdale PD / Westwood PD.

Their “new” PD 1 with Old Tappan is correct as listed. These channels are 100% in use as listed.

Thank you! Will the analog scanner pick up PD? Also, the unit does not allow me to enter in the exact frequency. It rounds it up or down. Does that matter?

Yes, PD is still analog but you’re never going to hear a thing unless it’s programmed to scanner the exact frequency.... so yes that absolutely matters. You could get a cheap uniden handheld for next to nothing that only scans analog channels and that will serve you well for what you want to listen to.

That would be a bummer if the police frequency you are interested in can't be accepted because the scanner won't take four digits past the decimal place.

If you are interested, you could try the fire frequencies covering the area around River Vale.

Ah River Vale. Back in the 70s I roamed the streets with my Radio shack Patrolman transistor radio. I upgraded to some fancy four channel
scanner with crystals. Same frequency

And I was roaming the streets of OT with my Lafayette radio: 601, eight-o Foodtown

Agree with railtrail, never had an issue with an older scanner not rounding the freq.
