realistic pro-41no sound, can anybody help?

So I just got a pro-41 as a Christmas gift but I'm not getting any sound out of it. The speaker obviously works because when I turn it on it will "click" but when I turn the squelch all the way down, nothing. also no sound gets to the headphone jack. So does anybody have any ideas as to what this could be or what I could do to find out the source of the problem?

The Pro-41 is a 16 year old scanner. When you program in the NWS weather radio freqience, can you hear anything?

Wow can't believe that I didn't think of that. Put in the local nws frequency and got it right away. I guess that will teach me not to assume that you'll always hear the static with the squelch open. Thank you very much for that!
