Really dumb question

I was looking at scanner frequencies and I ran across one that was 4940.00000 what in the world is this? I'm sort of new to scanning I was just curious.

The only dumb question is the one you don't ask...

It would help to know what reference/database you were looking at, but my guess is that it was a frequency listed in kilohertz in the HF "shortwave" range. If it was megahertz, it would be 4.94 gigahertz and unlikely to be a scanner-related listing.

This is the Public Safety WiFi band. This is used to designate a license for wideband usage in this band. Things like WLAN, mesh networks and in-car video to/from dispatch, etc. are expected to occur in this band. Many agencies are getting their licenses very early here, even before they actually have a plan to or the equipment to use it.

I may be wrong (happens all the time), but I believe at one time part of the 4 GHz band was used for microwave backhauls for connection to remote radio sites.
