No, the firmware should already handle it. If this is the system you are trying to hear...

then the system - not the scanner - needs to be rebanded. If you are doing this manually, here is the Easier to Read manual entry for this...

All 3 software packages - FreeScan, ARC-XT and ProScan - will handle putting this table in automatically. Mike

Rebanding is not applicable in this case with this model scanner. However due to the fact that the sites are simulcast you may be experiencing a phenominon known as simulcast distortion, a well documented & perhaps the most discussed issue on these forums. In a simulcast system, a site is not a single transmitter at a specific location, but rather a collection of transmitters spread out over a certain area that all transmit on the same frequency at the same time. It's all those signals coming to your scanner at the same time that cause most scanners to lock up, stutter, miss transmissions, etc. Ultimately the only scanners designed to mitigate the effects of simulcast distortion are the Uniden SDS100 (portable) or SDS200 (base). Yes they are the most expensive but they do the job right. There are a number of workarounds for other scanners mentioned in the wiki I linked but they work in very few cases.

I have 2 996P2 SCANNERS and I monitor Snohomish County WEST and EAST Simulcast
Do I have to reband the scanner
Rebanding is not applicable in this case with this model scanner.
The system specified is a Motorola Type II system. The West and East Simulcast sites both require the custom 800 MHz rebanded band plan.

Yes this is an old analog system that hasn't got rid of those rebanding issues yet by migrating to something else. In fact most all of the sites on that system will need the rebanding table.
