Okay, I know these questions have been asked before-however I can't figure out why an analog system programed into a scanner needs a firmware update and not a digital one?? Here in Colorado I just reprogrammed the scanner with the new frequencies. No firmware needed.

Now an analog system as I see it is where you have analog talk groups (Or channels?) and a digital CC the radio monitors. So, what;'s the difference between that and a full digital system with digital voice? I understand the FCC channel assignments, but as far as I was aware there wasn't a problem on how scanner decoded the CC data.

What's the difference in analog?? http://wiki.radioreference.com/index.php/Rebanding The only thing I can think of is how the channel assignments are given out in the CC for analog vs digital. I guess a digital system doesn't have FCC channel assignments? The CC uses something different? IDK. I always thought the CC had channel assignments.

When you think you understand something...you don't.. Gessh, Between Asto and Asto-25, VSLEP IMBE, etc. I have a headache.

I will give a brief answer and then close this as it has been discussed to death and all the information you need is in the Wiki.

Motorola system (3600 bps) control channels use an LCN setup already defined in the radio (indeed all trunking system use LCN setups) and this LCN lineup has the possibility of changing to previously undefined LCN's during rebanding. That is the reason some scanners need the firmware update and some scanners will go deaf if a re-banded Motorola system uses any of the new frequencies without the firmware.

This does not apply to any other type of trunking system except Motorola systems in the 800 MHz band. No P25, no EDACS, no LTR; just Motorola.
