Now that I'm in the correct forum...

Anybody hearing any interesting comms yet? I think most candidates or advanced parties are in route to SC, should make for some increased traffic. I found this link, anyone else have any frequencies or systems to share?

Freq Of Nature Secret Service

I'm going to lock on Aiken site on palmetto 800 and local Aiken PD stuff, fire up ID Tracker III and see what happens.

PM me with any .996 files you may have with possible systems or freqs.

I find that almost all of the freqs listed on that site have been out of service for several years except the ones listed as P25 Digital. I find most trafffic on SC Hwy Patrol Escort units and that does not amount to much. Good Luck.

I know this is a week old, but was wondering if anyone ended up hearing anything interesting or finding any updated channels during the recent Republican events in our state.

At this time none of the Republican candidates have USSS Protection. Any protection details would be a private security company.

Correct, but you would still think that local LEO would have escorts and a presence at these events.
The Secret Service channels are already well known, and encrypted anyways.
I was looking for more of the OPS channels being used by the locals as the canidates make their rounds in the Palmetto state. Special details? Escorts? Interop channels, ect.

One thing I have always noticed around the long-n-drawn-out Political Season is that folks are always asking for the "New", "Special" channels that will be used for the Candidates etc.

In monitoring [mainly New England, but other areas during travel] these events, nothing NEW is typically discovered.

USSS - migrated to P25 $001 years ago.
Encryption will vary, depending on the OP Temp and the additional federal agencies [if it gets busy they will TDY agents from other agencies over to the USSS]

Only when #1 or #2 land [Wheels-down] does the ENC go on

As for the Locals, Campus, State, County etc, Nothing new.
The channels they have for Day-to-Day ops get used.

ie: Boston moves the Cycle Escorts to Ch.01 [Citywide]
Mass SP assign a SOPS channel for the event [regularly assigned for other events - ie: LNG Tankers, Stadium events, Stanley Cup wins, World Series Wins, NBA Wins and Lombardi Trophy wins]

Additionally the small city/towns remain on the Local Channels and/or move over to any MA [Mutual Aid] channels. Again something that should be in your regular scan banks.

Then depending on who the Candidate is [Active Governor?] look for the National Mutual Aid channels on Direct aka Simplex as they do travel with their State Police/State Patrol/Capitol Police/Highway Patrol [YMMV] security protection details

These channels should regularly be in your scan banks, not something that gets thrown in , then removed ;) With todays scanners there is almost no need to worry about running out of room :D

I was involved in the debate in Spartanburg back in November and was present and several of the planning meetings. Sercret Service was not involved at that time, but there was a LARGE presence of local, county and state officers, between 100-200 sworn officers, plus 2 EMS units and FD on standby. Since county and state officers already had Palmetto 800 radios, a cache of XTS5000s were handed out to anyone that needed them. Ops were on the local SC TAC repeater, some comms also on the LE Common Troop 3 talkgroup on Palmetto 800. A command post was set up off site to coordinate operations. County bomb squad was on site for the duration.

I don't know about the debates in MB or N Chas, but I would guess a similar arrangement was made for those events, either using local tac repeaters, a common Pal8 talkgroup, or a talkgroup on the local trunked system (Palmetto P25 in Charleston's case.)

Back in November, there weren't any escorts for the candidates that I was aware of. They had security by obscurity because the campains didn't respond to most inquiries regarding logistics and no one even knew when they'd show up or how many people/vehicles would be in the groups.

Romney was in Spartanburg earlier this week and I didn't detect any special ops or communications for that event at all.

Great information Brian, thanks! I actually got to meet Newt and Griffin Perry (Rick's son) at a political rally at the USC Aiken convocation center. Very cool...though I wish I would have had a chance to bring the handheld scanner and fire it up in the parking lot for a few minutes before going in.

Newt was in Anderson on Saturday, January 21. During his visit, TG 41016 was active on the Palmetto P25 system. No ID's heard, but voice traffic appeared to be security coordination within either APD or ACSD (possibly both). This is the only time I have ever heard any activity on this TG.

ECPS92, that sounds about right, because if I remeber correctly the state's CIS website does have a page discussing radio requests and special operations and events. I belueve they had mobile 450 and 800 towers, as well as radios for use, for free, to qualifying agencies and events.
