I'm guessing, but I think changing the NFM in the HP-2 from that in the HP-1 would have required a re-submission to the FCC as a new device which would have required extensive testing/certification. I believe it was mentioned in other threads that the RF design in the HP-2 remains the same as the HP-1, the HP-2 changed to a different DSP.

I'm really surprised the HP-2 didn't require a new T/A even with the changes it has.

Thanks to all I read on this forum I chose to purchase a HP2. It was $629 on Amazon and shipped form BetterWayToBuy Monday. Arrive my house in Raleigh two days later. Could not be happier. Also after doing all the research in this forum and the internet I felt very comfortable setting it up and within 3 minutes was scanning all local Police, Sheriff, and HP stations. I checked out the power supply as many felt you could not listen and charge it. It works great using a standard car USB charger, my Apple charger from both the car and AC. As long as you have greater the 1000 Ma output it will play while charging. Setting up favorites with Sentinel SW was a breeze. Sound is great...I prefer the HP2 speaker to my PC BOSE speakers as it is clearer for voice.

Now I need to get a Mag antenna for the car. Any suggestions are appreciated.

$629?? You can get a new HP-2 for under $550

Same Here....HP II is nice

Happy with mine also. I had the HP1 and the GPS plug broke loose inside the radio but up until then, loved the radio and it's design (sold it for this reason). ( I also am a long time owner of the BCD396XT and use it for broadcasting my feed) Then I bought the BCD436HP.....mistake.....Didn't like it....far too complicated to operate in my opinion and I know scanners.......sold it and now the proud owner of the new HP II with the less expensive Extreme Upgrade!

I purchased the HP 2 about two weeks ago, and I like it!

The GPS plug has broken on my HP 1, also. Did you get yours repaired. If so, did you send it too Uniden for repair?

No, I "tried" (Army Electronics background) to repair it myself and was unsuccessful so I said heck with it and just went without GPS until the 436HP came along

Microscopic soldering required on that GPS connection. Seriously small. Probably why it broke so easily???

I am deciding between the HP-2 and WS1080. I need APCO Phase 2. Checking if, most everyone pleased with the HP-2? I assume there is no real time clock (RTC) battery that has to be recharged all the time (BCD436/536 has RTC requires charging). I like the HGP-2 display and ease of use but phase 2 is most important and good sensitivity. I do not hear complaints about the WS1080. Also, can anyone confirm if the HP-2 has an added processor, there was a rumor about that.
Thanks all for your thoughts.

The HP-2 does have an added processor. However, it does not have a "true" narrow band filter (the 436HP & 536HP do have one).

While I have not had clock issues with either my 436 or 536, the HP-2 does not require the same RTC charging that the x36 series scanners do.

The HP-2 hears what I expected to hear, based on my location and the antenna used (most use the R/S 800 MHz antenna). I have not seen any serious complaints about the WS1080, though I don't own one.

I just got an HP2. In my 30+ years of scanner monitoring, I have never owned anything that was considered top of the line unless purchased second hand many years after it was no longer top of the line. I still use several old Electra/Bearcat 300’s as Erie County, PA is still mostly analog, but probably not for too much longer as they are proposing to upgrade my county to P25 Phase 2. The HP2 is my first brand new top of the line scanning radio. I’m really enjoying it so far and I carry it with me everywhere. It amazes me how far the technology with these radios has come when I think back to what a bear it was buying crystals or programming radios like the Bearcat BC101. The HP2 is fun, easy, and intuitive to use, and the .3 uV sensitivity on all bands is excellent. The price seems too high, but looking back to the early 1980’s where a Bearcat BC300 was $400.00 when it was new, and factoring for inflation plus what went in to developing something like the HP2, the price is more understandable.

So what is the end result in reception and difference with the HP-2 not having a true narrow band filter as compared to the BCD436 in reception which does have the true narrow band filter?
