So what is the end result in reception and difference with the HP-2 not having a true narrow band filter as compared to the BCD436 in reception which does have the true narrow band filter?

If there are no adjacent frequencies in use, no difference. If adjacent frequencies are used, a world of difference. Depends entirely on frequencies in use in your area (and relative duty cycles...to interfere, the adjacent frequency must have a transmission at the same time as the target frequency).

Uhhh... no. Too far apart.

For VHF, the adjacent frequencies will be those 7.5 kHz above and below the one you want to hear. For UHF, 12.5 kHz above and below. Although anymore some adjacents are starting to use the 6.25 kHz splits, so that would be 6.25 kHz above and below.

For example, trying to monitor 155.730 MHz, the adjacents would be 155.7225 MHz and 155.7375 MHz.

If trying to hear 460.150 MHz, the adjacents would be 460.1375 MHz and 460.1625 MHz.

Los Angeles is one of the adjacent-frequency capitals of the world. When you factor in Ventura, Riverside, San Bernardino, and Orange County, things get pretty crowded. This is especially the case on the multiple 800 Mhz trunk sites in So. Cal. That said, the HP1 and 2 do reasonably well for me, but I tend to use them more for their analyze functions.
The x36HPs definitely do better in the real crowded scenarios in terms of their NFM filters. Did not understand why until Paul mentioned the NFM filter difference a couple of months back.
