Receiver for Troop I

I reside off Seymour Rd (Route 67) near its junction with Amity Rd (Route 63) in Woodbridge. Although I have a large accumulation of radios, I do not have one
that is capable of monitoring CLMRN. I'm interested in purchasing one for the sole purpose of monitoring Troop I (well, perhaps some others of interest). The radio will be used solely as a base receiver. I am not interested in either SDS model for a variety of reasons, cost is not one of them.
What would you recommend?

so you need a radio that get the 700 band AND can do phase 2 AND can do simulcast AND do it well AND not be an SDS series....................IDK.
you could try an SDR thing on a computer or one of the pager 'radios'.
good luck hunting.

Thank you for your input. I do have an SDR set up. I also have all of the system info. which you had thoughtfully posted for my review.
I am nearly (not quite...it's 5 miles from my residence) in the line of sight for the Bethany site.
But, what does the "LDK" abbreviation stand for?

It's "IDK" which stands for "I Don't Know". With that said the only receivers I recommend to mitigate likely simulcast distortion you'll face are Uniden's SDS100 or SDS200. Go with the latter if you're looking solely for base

I reside within 5 miles of one of the sites in use. Not overly concerned with simulcast. Had a friend stop by with a Homepatrol2...no simulcast issue. He keeps it in his car and nary a complaint re: simulcast issues. SDS radios do have their place in a RF-rich environment, but for me, overkill.

FWIW, I use a 1st gen P25rx on CLMRN, Listening to a dozen or so TGs, it works fantastic even at my house on Simulcast L, with low signal strength

i would just have said "i don't know" and that may not have helped.
a few years back the wife heard a signal 20 on our county sheriff's system.
she asked "what does a signal 20 mean"?
in my best Abbot and Costello, i answered "that's crazy"
she said "i am not crazy and i know what i heard"!
i again said "that's crazy" and then she got it.
i was hoping to get to the part of "what, he's on third base".
but yes, it was supposed to be a moment of thought and then i don't know.
and yes, you might live in a sweet spot.
my county's 700 simulcast system and my 325 work great, everywhere, except my house.
so i will be getting a 100 soon.

I would suggest 2 cheaper SDRs. RTL-SDRs can be had for about 50 bucks for the kit which includes antenna and dongle.
SDRTrunk is a decode program for p25 but I hate it with a passion as it's just plain crap.
DSDPLUS Fastlane has a free choice but it's junk. Spend the 25$ for lifetime updates and you'll be happier than anything. Lightweight which is great so you can run multiple systems at once - 1 dongle per system.

I agree, skip SDRTrunk, its garbage... DSDPlus is good.

Again, highly reccomend the P25rx, works very very well.

Never used the P25rx. I wanted to pick up the second version of it, but seller stopped selling so I went the rasp pi route with airspy R2 lmao.

I've heard great things about it though

Could always get yourself a unication pager, can be used as a base and has a portability option as well
Not a reply directly to you cadet but more for OP but really for anyone who sees it.

I have the Unication G5 barely used. Never left my house if you decide to go with a pager, I will sell cheaper than what the stores are selling it for - just DM me
Edit: forgot to tag OP @PD47JD

The website for Bluetail says the P25RXII is available with 5 day wait. No idea if that is current or not. Also, the forum on his site says there is a handheld coming out soon, BTT Eagle. That comes with a display.
I have the original and it sits on HFD Dispatch via CLMRN. Real nice audio ( I am only a few miles from a H Simul site).
There are RR or CSV import functions so it was easy to set up with TGIDs & RIDs.

There are some forums on his website but not a huge amount of content. Some of that is because the help file is pretty decent and a lot of the basic stuff was hashed out on RR before he was banned.

I have not done anything other than some basic CLMRN monitoring so I can't comment about anything but the P25P2 which works excellent for me.

I agree, outstanding performance, BT Config software is really robust now, I keep one in a small case and can set it up in minutes and be listening.

I would suggest the same thing as nhfdcadet, I have Unication G5s now and I love them for listening to the CLMRN

It has not been suggested but there is another option, Uniden 996 P2. I actually recently sold mine and I live about 5-7 minutes from you ironically. It is a great scanner for what you are looking to do. I had no need for it since I have 2 SDS200s and an SDS100. It never gave me any problems with reception. I loaded the CLMRN into it and just locked out everything except Troop I. Just a suggestion

Each area is dependent on reception so your house could be 1 house closer or further from the tower and it works, where as his house could have enough of a multi signal to not work.
