Receiving Ant. With Right Angle Bend: Implications Of Bend ?

Hello,

I do only HF listening, <30 MHz or so. No transmitting.

Presently using a 45 foot long wire antenna.
Works fairly well, but would like to make longer.

Due to space restrictions, only way to extend it would necessitate
a 90 degree right angle bend before the extension length.

What are the practical implications, and any ramifications, to having
this right angle bend ? Again, receiving only.

Worth doing ?

No place anywhere does it say a dipole has to be a straight line! Shouldn't be a problem.

Bending the antenna will alter its impedance (a bent antenna has a lower impedance than a perfectly straight one), and its radiation/reception gain pattern. The impedance difference won't really matter for reception, but the change in gain pattern might. The only way to really tell will be to try it and see what happens. Connect the extra wire with an alligator clip or whatever to see if it helps before making a more permanent connection.
