I want to give myself a present and am interested in what to get. I live in El Mirage and want a handheld scanner that can pickup FD/EMS/Police. Phoenix fire, life line ambulance are the two biggest I care about. What do I buy?

The two best choices right now for handhelds are the Uniden BCD396T and the GRE PSR-500. Eitherone would do a good job for you. The Uniden has a bit more memory ans a faster learning curve while the BGE does a bit better on the new digital systems.

You could go to the wiki there is a digital scanner compare page or each scanner has its own page for you to look at

You must live in Maricopa County. A Digital scanner is a MUST! A BC396T and a BC996T will do the job for you. If you would like the most up to date scanner, wait until early 2009 for the BC396XT! more channels and more compatibility.

Really good info on what scanners are the best to buy for a handheld. I was just wondering, I have a BC95XLT, and was wondering if it is a decent scanner? Can anyone tell me what they think of it?
