Recommendation on cheap scanner as a present

No, they answers exactly the question I was asking. If my father in law gets back into it he'll definitely want to buy a phase II scanner, but they're well out of my price range and the idea here is just to whet his appetite.

GV27, How did Mr Scanner Santa do at Christmas, did your father in law get and like that 1st scanner?
If you ended up getting him that basic BC125AT don't forget Uniden has it's free programming software.
This way you could easily program his frequency alpha tags so he can easily ID any scanner traffic.
It's best to group by category so he can shift gears (enable/disable banks) to fit his listening mood
