My current shack (okay, it's my nightstand) consists of an HP-1E connected to a Diamond discone and an older Radio Shack (Sangean) shortwave with about 70 feet of wire.

I'm looking to add a simple and fairly inexpensive portable whose only real purpose would be racing and air shows, so no need for trunking.

My only real requirements are alpha tagging, and hopefully PC connectivity for easy programming.

Any thoughts on what will give me the best bang for the fewest bucks?

Thanks

I second the BC125AT. I have one and it is a very good scanner for the money. I used it in my vehicle fore a while until I replaced it with an HP-1. I bought it specifically for the alpha tagging.

I just bought the RS version, Pro-649. I like it. Great reception and audio quality. Loud too. Only issue, you can't program PL and DCS tones. But well worth the money.

I also recommend the BC125AT. Alpha tagging, you can program tones, great reception.

Thanks, fellas. I very much appreciate your taking the time to reply. I think the 125 is just about exactly what I'm looking for.
